OLD THUMPERS Classic Rules

  • All bikes must be:
    • air cooled
    • twin shock
    • drum brakes


  • All bikes must be true to year of manufacture and of original type of engine, frame, brakes and suspension type and travel for their respective years.
    • Only exceptions to twin shocks shall be genuine factory non linkage single shock as found on YZ and MX Yamaha's


  • Pre 65 - 71 - 75 classes shall have no more than 4½ inch rear wheel travel and 7 inch front wheel travel.
    • Only exceptions are genuine factory bikes which had more travel in that year, i.e. AJS Stormer, some Maicos etc.


  • Suspension modifications in these early classes to increase travel, i.e. later model forks and shocks may at the discretion of organisers put the machine into the next year group or be handicapped.


  • Because of flow on componentry, ALL British machines of later manufacture that qualify on other rules of brakes and suspension shall be allowed to race in the pre 1971 class, e.g. Triumph & BSA singles and twins.


  • ALL pre unit 4 strokes of later manufacture, i.e. Royal Enfield, Velo etc., that qualify on other rules of brakes and suspension shall be allowed to race in the pre 1965 class.


  • Any frame, engine, brakes or suspension components which are of later manufacture but are almost identical to that of which was available at the time shall be allowed.


  • Some bikes of later manufacture being almost identical to an earlier model shall be allowed to race, i.e. XT, TT 500 Yamahas, Husqvarna, CCM, Armstrong, some Hondas, etc.


  • Later model larger diameter forks and twin leading shoe brakes are not allowed.


  • Flat, crescent and square slide carburators and fuel injectors of modern origins shall be discouraged. Only genuine pre 75 & 80 round, flat and square slide carb. and injectors should be used, i.e. Amal, Mikuni, Delorto, Lectron, Gardiner, Wall, Phillips, etc.


  • Veteran's class will be 50 years and over.


  • Pre 80 class bikes in the vets may be handicapped.


  • Handicapping – at the discretion of organisers at any time for any race.
