Fishing

There is trout fishing, whitebait fishing and sea fishing. Last season, a marlin was even caught in the Bay.

Easy to challenging. We have two of the most popular walks in New Zealand by our doorstep - the Heaphy Track and the Abel Tasman Coastal Track.

There are three large privately owned limestone caves that provide tours, but there are also numerous caves you can discover on your own.

The Bay is on the migratory path for many birds including white herons and arctic terns. You will also see seals, dolphins, stingrays and perhaps a whale or penguin while touring around the Bay.

Gold Panning

Golden Bay was named after all of the gold found in the local hills although most people think it was named for the color of the sandy beaches. Many local tracks will lead you through the gold areas where you can still see a fleck of gold here and there.
